The Leonard A. Gereau Center for Applied Technology and Career Exploration will enable students to explore various career options and prepare them to make knowledgeable decisions about their future educational choices while supporting all divisional goals. It is our belief that what students learn at The Gereau Center should:
- Be relevant to family, community, and workplace
- Be student-centered
- Be performance-based
- Stem from mastery of Curriculum objectives jointly developed by educators, parents, and representatives from business, industry, and government, and directed toward the mastery of the Virginia Standards of Learning
- Lead clearly and effectively into secondary and post-secondary educational programs available to all students
This mission will be accomplished by:
- A staff, which combines trained educators and professional business people
- Use of technology as a teaching and information-processing tool
- Hands-on, discovery learning, and problem-based in nature
- Group and individual problem solving projects
- Integrated curriculum
- Teachers functioning as facilitators of learning
- Involvement of business, industry, and government agency entities in the instructional process
