THE CEED PURPOSE
The CEED enables students and community members to explore various energy devices and techniques to make intelligent decisions about energy and housing.
The building is:
- A learning laboratory where Franklin County students come to explore green technology and building design through problem-based learning.
A field trip destination for students in the surrounding region.
- A place where web-based lesson plans written by educators specifically for the CEED are implemented. These plans are based on the functions of the building and use real-time and archived data from the building's monitoring systems and weather station.
- A place for builders and home owners to examine energy efficient building techniques and energy producing applications.
Our purpose is accomplished through:
- Use of technology as a teaching and information-processing tool.
- Interpretive displays.
- Hands-on discovery learning.
- Group and individual problem-solving projects.
- An integrated curriculum.
- Involvement of business, industry, government, and post-secondary educational entities in the instructional process.
- Time and schedule flexibility.
